TAKING IT TO THE SWAMP
The Georgia Southern Alumni Association will hold a social at The Swamp Restaurant Friday night in Gainesville from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Tailgating with WTOC with Tim Guidera and Dal Cannady co-hosting the special broadcast beginning at 7:30 p.m.
LAST TIME IN THE SUNSHINE STATE
Georgia Southern last played in the Sunshine State in 2004 in the final game of the regular season when it faced Florida International and took home a 53-32 win.
COACH'S KIDS
Both Coach Jeff Monken and Coach Will Muschamp are the sons of football coaches. More than a dozen Monken family members have coached at the high school, collegiate or pro level. Jeff Monken's cousin Todd is the current head football coach at Southern Miss.
OTHER FAMILY MATTERS
Georgia Southern Football graduate assistant coach Jaybo Shaw speaks to his brother often, which may come in handy for the Eagles this Saturday. Connor Shaw led the Gamecocks to a victory over the Gators last weekend.

The Georgia Southern Fight song was composed by Richard Bowles, longtime director of bands at the University of Florida. In 1982, when Georgia Southern was preparing to field its first football team in more than 40 years, Bowles was contacted by Jerry Michaelson, then-band director at Georgia Southern and former student of Bowles, to create the iconic piece.
FIRST ONE AND LAST ONE
Quarterback Jerick McKinnon saw his first college football game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to watch his older brother, Florida safety Lester Norwood play as McKinnon will play his final collegiate game at the same venue.

Georgia Southern and Florida have met only twice with the Gators winning both games. The top-ranked Eagles, fresh off their first national championship, faced Florida in the 1986 season opener for both schools with Florida winning 38-14. In 1996, Georgia Southern faced the eventual NCAA Division I-A and I-AA national champions in Florida (62-14) and Marshall (29-13) in back-to-back weeks after a season-opening win over South Carolina State.
