Junior offensive tackle helps Eagles maintain ranking as top rushing unit in NCAA Division I
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Garrett Frye, an offensive lineman on the Georgia Southern football team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 20, the league office announced Wednesday.
Frye, a junior exercise science major, boasts a 3.71 grade point average. He was named Eagle Football Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2012 and was a member of the GSU Athletics Honor Roll in both semesters last year. In each of his previous four semesters at Georgia Southern, the Cumming, Ga., native has earned Dean's List status for recording a grade point average of 3.5 or above.
He is the second student-athlete selected for the SoCon academic accolade this academic year as Kym Coley on the Eagle Volleyball team earned the honor in the first week.
Frye helps anchor an offensive line that averages a Division I-best 353.3 rushing yards per game. Last week, he helped the Eagle offense score five rushing touchdowns and earn 502 yards of total offense, including 398 on the ground, in a 38-20 win over Elon.
