STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Track & Field team continues the indoor season at the Blazer Invitational at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Only a partial Eagle squad travels to Birmingham, Ala. to start competition on Friday at 9 a.m. For live coverage of the event click here.
“Just like our December meet, this one will be to just kind of to see where we are at,” said Head Coach Marlo Mincey. “We are not traveling with a full team but it will be a great experience for everyone to compete against the many schools that will be there.”
The Eagles opened the indoor season in December at Clemson’s Orange & Purple Winter Classic and saw several Eagles finish in the top five as well as post personal bests.
Senior Ebony Carter finished second in the 60m Dash (7.59), running only .05 slower than her personal best which is the second fasted time in Georgia Southern history. Junior Amber Vaugn finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m.
In the 500m Dash junior Cherelle King and sophomore Kimberly Thomas finished neck and neck, coming in fourth (1:17.54) and fifth (1:17.72) place respectively, both setting new personal-bests. Junior Asea Mayfield also claimed a top five spot while breaking her own personal record, finishing fifth in the 1000m Run (3:04.37).
