STATESBORO, Ga. - For one member of the Georgia Southern Football coaching staff, all eyes will be on New York tonight as the New York Giants face the New York Jets at 7 p.m.
New York native and current Eagles cornerbacks coach Orlando Mitjans is always interested when bragging rights over his home state are on the line, but that interest has gone up a notch now that tonight's game features two of his former players in Laron Scott and Antwuan Molden.
Laron Scott, who was waived by the New Orleans Saints after playing in the Hall of Fame game, was signed earlier this week by the New York Giants, the same team that Molden plays for.
"I am so happy for those two guys," said Mitjans with a smile after Saturday's scrimmage. "To have two guys that I have coached playing on the same NFL team is a blessing and a honor to their hard work. I am looking forward to sitting down tonight in front of the TV and cheering both of them on."
After a call from Mitjans informing him of Laron's signing, Molden was the first Giant to greet Scott when he reached the practice facility for the first time.
Molden, who played for Mitjans at Eastern Kentucky, is in his first season with the Giants after playing three years with Houston and one with New England.
Mitjans described the former Colonel as "a real physical corner. He is a taller version of Laron. He can run and cover all of those big receivers."
Molden will wear #22 tonight while Scott will be in #48 for his Giant's debut.
