SWA Cathy Beene Selected to Hall of Fame

STATESBORO, Ga. - Former Georgia Southern Tennis coach and current Senior Woman Administrator, Cathy Beene, was selected for the 2012 class of the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame. A local product from Harlingen High School Harlingen, Texas, Beene is one of seven new members set to be inducted on June 30th at the Pharr Events Center.
Beene has more than 30 years as a coach and an administrator at the Division I level. She began her career as a No. 1 ranked high school tennis player at Harlingen and went on to play collegiately at Lamar. The success continued in college where she won four-straight state titles and was a part of national doubles title in 1973.
She went on to be a head coach at four different schools and was twice selected as a conference coach of the year. Beene took over the Eagle program in 1997 and served as head coach through the 2002 season before moving full time into administrative duties.
A 1993 inductee to the Lamar University Hall of Fame, Beene is currently serving her second term as the Chair of the NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Committee.
