Statesboro, Ga. - After a day off on Friday, the Georgia Southern football team will return to action in their second scrimmage of the spring. The Eagles will head out to Paulson Stadium Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Fans who attend the scrimmage are asked to sit in the stands behind the Eagles bench. The scrimmage will be the final tune up before the Blue White spring game on April 14.
All eyes will be on the quarterback position as Georgia Southern looks to replace starting quarterback Jaybo Shaw. Shaw has been the starter for the past two seasons, and the Eagles will not only need to fill the starting spot, but also the leadership inherited by the position.
Competing for the starting spot are Ezayi Youyoute (Wauchula, Fla.)and Jerick McKinnon (Marietta, Ga.). Youyoute and McKinnon have been rotating between the first and second team so far this spring, and the position battle could go on until the fall. But both players will be utilized as Head Coach Jeff Monken has said whoever does not start, will be used at another position.
While Youyoute and Mckinnon are the front-runners for the starting spot, also getting work in this spring are Prince McJunkins (Wagoner, Okla.) and Russell Demasi (Savannah, Ga.). They will look to sure up the roster at the position and give insurance as backups in the upcoming season.
After Saturday's scrimmage the Eagles will practice the 9th, 10th and 12th before heading back to Paulson Stadium for the Blue White spring game on April 14.
