STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Football team returned to the practice field for the first time since December with their first spring practice on Thursday. The Eagles took to the field for nearly two hours in helmets and shorts for their first of 15 sessions.
Georgia Southern began the work of replacing All-American offensive linemen Brett Moore and William Maxwell with work on footwork, agility and driving out of the three-point stance. Blake DeBartola (Fayetteville, Ga.) along with Manrey Saint-Amour (Suwanee, Ga.) are working out at center to replace the hole left by the graduating Maxwell. DeBartola moves over from left guard, while Saint-Amour served as a backup last year.
Logan Daves (Blue Ridge, Ga.) and Zach Lonas (Acworth, Ga.) are working out at DeBartola's former left guard spot, and Garrett Frye (Cumming, Ga.) and Raymond Klugey (Norcross, Ga.) move into the right tackle slot vacated by Moore. Returning from last year's offensive line, that helped the Eagles average 323.5 rushing yards a game, are Dorian Byrd (Macon, Ga.) and Trevor McBurnett (Fayetteville, Ga.).
Spring practice continues this week on Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Blue White game is set for 1 p.m. on April 14th and will be proceeded by the 6th Annual Little Eagles Camp at 10 a.m. Following the game the Georgia Southern Baseball team will take on Appalachian State at 6 p.m. at J.I. Clements Stadium. The Athletic Foundation will provide free food in the lower parking lot prior to the game for all fans with a ticket or student ID. The annual EFAA Reverse Raffle and Auction will also take place at 6 p.m. in Bishop Field House following the spring game.
