Eagles Host Wofford for Military Appreciation Day

STATESBORO, Ga. - A pair of top-10 teams and the two top teams in the Southern Conference standings will meet Saturday in Allen E. Paulson Stadium. The seventh-ranked Georgia Southern Eagles play host to the fourth-ranked Wofford Terriers on Military Appreciation Day. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and the game can be heard on the Georgia Southern Radio Network. A live video stream is also available on GSEagles.com.
Georgia Southern (4-1, 3-1) has rebounded after a 23-21 loss at The Citadel on Sept. 8 to win three-straight Southern Conference games and currently stands in second place with a 3-1 conference mark. GSU will play its 200th game in Paulson Stadium, where they are 168-31 all-time, Saturday. The Eagles also hold the second-longest current home winning streak in the FCS at 13 games.
The Eagles rushed for 614 yards, their fourth-largest total in school history, in a 45-13 win at Western Carolina this past Saturday. Senior Darreion Robinson (Bishop, Ga.) posted a career-high 124 yards in the contest and was one of three 100-yard rushers on the day for GSU. His 48-yard touchdown in the first quarter was also his longest run of the season.
Wofford (5-0, 3-0) is the second undefeated opponent that the Eagles will face at home in the last three weeks. The Terriers opened the season with a 34-7 win at Gardner-Webb and pulled off SoCon victories over Western Carolina, Elon and Furman.
The two option teams rank as the top-two rushing teams in the FCS. The Eagles are second with 437 rushing yards per game, while Wofford leads the country with 448.8 rushing yards per game. Dominique Swope (Buford, Ga.) leads the team with 105 rushing yards per game, while the Terriers' Eric Breitenstein leads the SoCon with 178.6 rushing yards per game. Both teams, however, rank in the top-10 in the nation in rush defense.
After knocking off Wofford 31-10 in their final SoCon game of the 2011 season, Georgia Southern won their 9th Southern Conference Championship and their second-straight game over the Terriers. The Eagles hold an 11-7 all-time record against the Terriers, but Wofford holds a 5-3 record in Paulson Stadium.
To honor the military personnel in attendance and those serving worldwide, Georgia Southern will wear special camouflage uniforms for the game and the United States Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights, will also deliver the game ball Saturday. Ticket specials for servicemen and women are available with a valid military ID at gate 4 near the Bishop Field House.
