STATESBORO, Ga. - After rushing for 95-yards and a touchdown on five carries in 7th-ranked Georgia Southern's 45-13 win over Western Carolina Saturday, James Dean (Brunswick, Ga.) was named Southern Conference Freshman of the Week.
Dean was one of four Eagles to rush for over 90 yards in the fourth best GSU rushing performance in school history. Dean also helped the Eagles rush for over 200 yards in the fourth quarter and scored one of two fourth quarter touchdowns on a 43-yard run with 1:31 remaining in the game.
Dean is the second Eagle to be honored by the SoCon this year. After hitting the game-winning field goal against Elon, Alex Hanks (Marietta, Ga.) was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week.
Georgia Southern returns home for Military Appreciation Day and will host Wofford at Allen E. Paulson Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
