SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Twenty-five Southern Conference student-athletes were selected as recipients of the sixth annual Coleman Lew Leadership Award, including Brittani Martin (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Sebastien Felt (Vienna, Austria) of Georgia Southern. The Southern Conference and Coleman Lew & Associates, Inc., a national executive search firm, made the announcement today, June 1st.
The award recognizes student-athletes from each of the Southern Conference's 12 member institutions. Athletic directors and representatives from Coleman Lew & Associates conducted one-on-one interviews with the finalists before determining the award winners. Coaches, faculty athletic representatives and senior women administrators nominate prospective candidates based on leadership, academic excellence and athletic achievement in both the college environment and the community.
“Our firm is privileged to have an educational partnership with the Southern Conference,” said Kenneth D. Carrick, Jr., president of Coleman Lew & Associates. “We are proud to present the sixth annual Coleman Lew Leadership Award to these outstanding student-athletes who have demonstrated leadership skills in their academic performance, athletic skill, and community service.”
Martin, a three-year letterwinner for the Georgia Southern cross country and track teams, posted a personal-best mark for a 5K race during the fall of 2009 and ran for two top-eight finishes in the 5,000 meter run during the 2011 outdoor track season. She earned President's List honors two times for a perfect semester GPA of 4.0 and was named to the Dean's List three times (3.5 GPA or above).
A sophomore on the Men's Tennis team, Felt clinched a team victory for the Eagles against Hampton this past season and contributed in both singles and doubles play. He is a three-time selection to the President's List and earned Dean's list honors one semester.
"Coleman Lew & Associate has been a valued partner for the past five years and these awards are testimony to their commitment to the Southern Conference," said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino. "The recipients are among the best and brightest student-athletes to be found in a member institution's program."
Recipients will be recognized at the Southern Conference Honors Dinner on Wednesday, June 1st at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Hilton Head, S.C.
