Academic All-Conference Honors Announced by Southern Conference

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Six Georgia Southern student-athletes were honored Thursday, April 7th, as members of the Southern Conference Academic All-Conference team for the 2010-11 winter sports season. Student-athletes representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions were named to the team. Five Eagle women's basketball players made the list with junior guard Samantha Williams (Kingsport, Tenn.) posting the highest grade point average with a 3.96 in accounting.
The 191 total SoCon academic honorees participated in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field and wrestling. The average GPA was 3.55 on a 4.0 scale.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the 2010-2011 winter campaigns. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
