Track & Field Competes at War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. - Due to storms yesterday, events originally scheduled for Friday, April 15th, at the War Eagle Invitational will begin today, Saturday, April 16th. The Georgia Southern Track and Field team travelled to Auburn's Auburn's Hutsell-Rosen Track to compete in this meet for the third straight year. The Eagles continue to prepare for the 25th annual Women's Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship next weekend.
Georgia Southern joins nine other universities competing at this meet. The women's competition includes No. 10 Florida State, No. 11 Auburn, No. 19 Georgia, No. 22 Southern Illinois and No. 23 Penn State.
Last year at the War Eagle Invitational, Shaunta Hamilton (Macon, Ga.) took third place in the Long Jump (19'4") and in the Triple Jump (38'11.5"). Azura Robillard (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) placed seventh in the 800 meter Run. Ebony Carter (Rome, Ga.) ran her 2010 season-best time in the 100 meter Dash and has significantly reduced her time this season.
In the distance events, Brittani Martin (Alpharetta, Ga.) recorded a 15th-place finish and Kassi Lee (Elberton, Ga.) finished in the top 25 in the 5,000 meter Run. Sara Curry (Lawrenceville, Ga.) added a top-25 finish for the Eagles in the 1,500 meter Run in last year's meet.
Alex Cassagnol (Augusta, Ga.) took a top-eight finish with a height of 5'4.25" in the High Jump for her best season performance and Millicent Brooks-Millender (Douglasville, Ga.) finished in 16th with at 16-01.50 (0.1) in the Long Jump. Robillard matched her 2010 season best with a throw of 101-4 in the javelin for 13th place at the 2010 War Eagle Invitational and Ashley Thomas placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 39-08.
