Jake Ware Receives Southern Conference Graduate Scholarship

SPATANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference Office announced today, March 23rd, that Georgia Southern senior Jake Ware is a recipient of a Southern Conference Graduate Scholarship. The Statesboro, Ga., native joins seven other postgraduate scholarship recipients for the 2010-11 academic year. Eight student-athletes will be honored for their accomplishments at the Southern Conference Honors Dinner in Charleston, S.C., on June 1st.
"It's a tremendous honor to be named a recipient of this award," Ware said. "It's a privilege to be a student-athlete at Georgia Southern University and to represent the school and athletics department in a positive light. This award is a testament to all my coaches and professors who have inspired me to do great things inside the classroom."
Eight postgraduate scholarships are awarded by the Southern Conference each year. Ware joins Samford's Ina Ables as a recipient of the prestigious Southern Conference Graduate Scholarship. This year's other honorees include: Dave Hart Graduate Scholarship recipient Matt Leeds (College of Charleston), Dorothy Hicks Graduate Scholarship recipient Allison Drutchas (Davidson), David Knight Graduate Scholarship recipient Callan Elswick (Davidson), William V. Moore Graduate Scholarship presented by McMillan/Pazdan/Smith recipient Jessica Maas (The Citadel), and Bob McCloskey Insurance Graduate Scholarship recipients Courtney Barnes (Chattanooga) and Michael Schecter (Wofford).
A three-year letterman on the baseball team from 2008-10, Ware is competing as a member of the Eagle Golf team for the 2010-11 season. An international studies major, Ware owns a 3.94 Grade Point Average. He has been named to the Georgia Southern President's List for six semesters, an honor for students who achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA in a given semester. Ware has also been a member of the Southern Conference's Academic Honor Roll four years. During his time at Georgia Southern, Ware has participated with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has volunteered for the Special Olympics, Athletes in Action and Buddy Ball. He plans to pursue a graduate degree in International Studies.
