SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Leading into the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, Georgia Southern senior Lynndsey Hyter (Dallas, Texas) earned her second straight honor as the SoCon Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches. Samford senior Hillary Neal was named the Track Athlete of the Week.
Hyter won the Triple Jump at the Tiger Tuneup with a leap of 40'-2.25" to narrowly miss a spot among the Eagles' top-five distances. In her first 60 meter High Hurdles event of the year, she ran an 8.84 for the best Georgia Southern time of the season and her best time in the event since 2009. Hyter currently leads the SoCon in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump and is ranked second in the 60m HH. The Dallas, Texas, native won back-to-back Most Outstanding Indoor Field Performer honors after winning the Pentathlon in 2009 and 2010.
The Eagles will travel to the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex for the SoCon Championships Saturday-Sunday, February 26-27th. The Pentathlon is the first event on the schedule, set for a 10 a.m. start Saturday.
