Bevillard Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Georgia Southern senior swimmer Caroline Bevillard has been named a recipient of a postgraduate scholarship from the National Collegiate Association of Athletics (NCAA). The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics awarded the prestigious NCAA Women's Enhancement Program Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics to the Athens, Ga., native this week.
Only 13 scholarships of this type are awarded each year and the awards process considered the student-athlete's involvement in extracurricular activities, course work, commitment to pursuing a career in intercollegiate athletics and promise for success in such a career. Applicants must have a demonstrated career of distinction at their undergraduate institutions.
"It is extremely exciting to be one of the recipients of this postgraduate scholarship," Bevillard said. "It's great that the NCAA offers this opportunity so I can further my education past the undergraduate level. The people and experiences that I have encountered in my four years at Georgia Southern are really what made it possible. My time spent here has prepared me for what the future holds, and I am looking forward to continuing my pursuit of a career in college athletics."
Bevillard will receive a $6,000 scholarship award for use in her chosen sports-related graduate program during the 2011-12 academic year. Prior to the start of her graduate curriculum, she will attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis this June. The four-day event promotes opportunities and education on careers in sports, with a focus on intercollegiate athletics.
Bevillard was recognized as Georgia Southern's Scholar-Athlete for the 2009-2010 academic year and earned honors as a Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association All-Academic team member. The Eagle Swimming and Diving team was named a Scholar-All-American team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Selected for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women's At-Large second team for District III, she possesses a 3.96 grade point average with a major in Sport Management.
A three-year letterwinner for Georgia Southern's Swimming and Diving team, Bevillard owns the University record for the 200-yard freestyle and is a member of four record-setting relay teams. Last spring, based on her leadership, academic excellence and athletic achievement, she was selected as a recipient of the Southern Conference's Coleman Lew Leadership Award. She currently serves as the president of Georgia Southern's Student-Athlete Advisory Board and works as a student assistant for the Georgia Southern Athletics Foundation.
