STATESBORO, Ga. - Five Georgia Southern Eagles were selected to Phil Steele's and the Walter Camp Foundation's FCS All-American Teams. William Maxwell, Brett Moore, Adrian Mora, Brent Russell and Laron Scott were honored by one of the two teams.
Moore was named an All-American by both the Walter Camp Foundation and Phil Steele. The Warner Robins, Ga., native started all 14 games at right tackle for a Georgia Southern offense that averaged 323.5 yards rushing. He also finished the regular season with 44 knockdowns and posted a season-high 11 knockdowns against Western Carolina.
Fellow offensive lineman, Maxwell, was a second-team All-American selection by Phil Steele. He started all 14 games, splitting time between right guard and center. In his first career start at center against Wofford, he knocked down a season-best 17 defenders and added 8 knockdown in the regular-season finale against Alabama. The senior lineman led the squad with 96 knockdowns and recorded 10 or more in four games in the regular season.
The FCS record holder for consecutive extra points, Mora, notched 151-straight extra points to start his career and was named a Third Team All-American by Phil Steele. The Dalton, Ga., native also holds the Georgia Southern career field goal record and stands fifth on the school's all-time scoring list. The place kicker finished the year 12-of-14 in field goals and 62-for-64 on extra points.
A disruptive force in the middle of Georgia Southern's defense, Russell was tagged a First Team All-American by both Walter Camp and Phil Steele. The Comer, Ga., native ranks among the SoCon leaders with 6.5 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss and is the only defensive tackle in the top-4 of those categories. The junior defensive tackle picked up his 20th career sack against Old Dominion, passing 2001 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year, Freddy Pesqueira, for fifth place in school history.
A game changer in the special teams and the school's leader in career kick return yardage, Scott was selected a First Team All-American as kick returner and a Fourth Team All-American on defense. The Warner Robins, Ga., native ranks second in the FCS with 30.6 yards per return and scored two touchdowns this season. Scott finished sixth on the team with 53 tackles and led the team with three interceptions, 18 pass breakups and 21 passes defended.
