SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After a solid effort Saturday against BCS foe Alabama, two members of the Georgia Southern Football team were honored by the Southern Conference. Dominique Swope (Buford, Ga.) and Laron Scott (Warner Robins, Ga.) earned the freshman player of the week and special teams player of the week, respectively.
Swope earned the freshman award for the second-straight week after carrying the ball 18 times with an 8.5 yard per carry average. Behind an 82 yard touchdown in the second quarter, he rushed for 153 yards, the most allowed by Alabama since 2010. The freshman B-Back accounted for over half of the team's 302 rushing yards and helped the Eagles score 21 points, a season-high allowed by the Crimson Tide defense.
With the third-longest kickoff return in school history, Scott pulled Georgia Southern to within 10 points with 95-yard return in the third quarter. The senior cornerback was also honored as the National Kickoff Returner of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards after finishing with a career-best 183 return yards.
