SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Dominique Swope set the bar high in just his 10th game with Georgia Southern, earning his second Southern Conference Freshman of the Week Award of the year behind a career-best 165-yard rushing performance on Saturday.
The Eagles (9-1, 7-1) handed the ball to the Buford, Ga., native 27 times en route to their first SoCon Title since 2004 and their ninth overall since joining the league in 1993. Swope responded to the increased work load with a 6.1 average per carry in the 31-10 win at Wofford.
The B-Back had previously carried the ball more than 10 times only once all season and earned the same award in that game as well. Against Elon, Swope carried the ball 15 times for 74 yards and found the end zone twice once on a 5-yard rush, the other a 12-yard pass reception.
Georgia Southern wraps up the regular season at the BCS' number-three ranked team. Kickoff against the Alabama Crimson Tide is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. est and the game will air on ESPN3 outside of the state of Alabama.
