A three-year letterwinner for the Eagles (2004-06) and a student assistant in 2010, Dustin Evans will serve as Georgia Southern's Director of Baseball Operations in 2011.
Evans was drafted out of high school by the Cincinnati Reds in the 28th round, but opted instead for a collegiate career. As an Eagle, Evans compiled a 20-12 record in 49 career appearances over three seasons. He opened his collegiate career posting a 6-4 mark and threw four complete games en route to a 9-5 record his sophomore season, tying for the team-lead in wins with nine. The sophomore was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game against Appalachian State, fanning six and allowing only five hits and one run (unearned). His junior campaign, Evans logged 58.0 innings, striking out 47 to go 5-3.
After his sophomore season at Georgia Southern, Evans spent the summer in the Cape Cod League where he helped lead the Orleans Cardinals to the 2005 Cape Cod title. Evans accumulated a 2-2 record in seven appearances with a 2.27 ERA, logging 35.2 innings and 30 strikeouts.
Following his junior season, Evans was drafted in the 2006 Major League Draft by the Atlanta Braves in the second round (pick #68). The right-handed pitcher played three seasons in the Minor Leagues before suffering a career-ending injury. Evans compiled a 3-3 record his first season between two teams for a 2.63 ERA, striking out 35 batters in 51.1 innings. He capped his career with the Mississippi Braves in 2008. Within his three years of professional baseball, Evans was teammates with current Atlanta Braves pitchers Tommy Hanson, Kris Medlen and Johnny Venters.
