STATESBORO, Ga. - The Eagles started a little slow at practice on Sunday afternoon, but finished up stronger as another session went into the books. Each position group ran through drills, 1-on-1 work, base plays and coverages after Georgia Southern opened the seventh day of practice with special teams.
The second half of practice featured the option versus the defense before skelly and then concluded with two periods of team versus the defense. Drills, drills and more drills sharpened the team on both offense and defense. Coach Monken told the team following practice that today was another opportunity for the Eagles to get better.
Preseason camp is not only the time for the players to learn and compete, but for the coaches to evaluate and experiment.
"What camp is for, in my mind, is that we are trying to find the best fit, the best group, the best five guys," said Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Brent Davis. "One way where we are a little bit different is that the techniques for all our positions are very similar, so guys have to be interchangeable, and they have to learn more than one position. We're just trying to find the best fit right now. I think we're getting close to finding the best five to start out with and then from there, we need to find more guys to put in there and have them learn all the positions."
Sophomore Blake DeBartola spent time at center today with junior Brandavious Mann sliding over to the right tackle spot.
