STATESBORO, Ga. - As part of one of the best game day atmospheres in the nation, Georgia Southern fans will enjoy a number of promotional activities at Eagle home football games again this year. Georgia Southern will kick off the season September 4th against Savannah State with Faculty/Staff Day, Junior Eagle Club Day and a fireworks show following the game. The Eagles' Sept. 25 Southern Conference opener against Elon will feature the annual "Cheerleader for a Day" clinic.
Students and their families will celebrate Family Weekend October 8th-10th, with the football game against Wofford part of the weekend's festivities. For the 25-year reunion of the 1985 National Championship, team members will be introduced at haltime . Future talent might be discovered during the halftime games played by local recreation teams that game as well. The October 30th game against Samford has been designated as the Hall of Fame game and Military Appreciation Day.
The best may be saved for last, as the Eagles' Homecoming November 6th will include recognition of the 2010 senior football players and Georgia Southern's 1990 and 2000 National Championship teams. In the final regular-season game, the Eagles play host to Appalachian State for this year's "BLUE OUT" at Paulson Stadium.
Sept. 4 - Savannah State, 6 p.m.
Faculty and Staff Day - All Georgia Southern faculty/staff members receive two tickets for the price of one when they present their Georgia Southern ID. Faculty and staff tickets must be purchased by noon on Friday, Sept. 3 by calling or visiting the Georgia Southern Ticket Office.
Junior Eagle Club Day - All members of the 2010 Junior Eagle Club will receive free admission when they present their Junior Eagle Club card at the Paulson Stadium gates.
Fireworks - A spectacular fireworks show, presented by Briggs and Stratton, will take place after the end of the game.
Sept. 25 - Elon, 6 p.m.
Cheerleader for a Day - Girls and boys ages 4-14 are invited to participate in "Cheerleader for a Day," beginning at 1 p.m. at Hanner Fieldhouse. Participants will learn cheers, chants and cheerleading skills, and then give a demonstration for their parents. The children will head to Paulson Stadium and perform cheers with GUS and the Georgia Southern cheerleaders and help form the tunnel for the Eagle football players prior to kickoff. The registration fee ($30 by September 21, $35 after) includes a football game ticket for the participant and photo with GUS.
Oct. 9 - Wofford, 6 p.m.
Family Weekend - The 2010 Family Weekend Package is $35 per person, which provides one ticket to the football game, the pre-game tailgate, admission for one adult or youth to the dessert reception, discounts to local attractions with the Family Weekend Pass and one official Family Weekend t-shirt. The reservation deadline is September 24th.
Youth Football at Halftime - Four Statesboro/Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department youth football teams will play two abbreviated games at halftime.
1985 National Championship Reunion - Honoring the 25th anniversary of the 1985 National Championship, members of the team will be recognized at halftime.
Oct. 30 - Samford, 2 p.m.
Military Appreciation Day - Georgia Southern Athletics will recognize all branches of the military during the game. For Eagle fans unable to attend the game, their unused tickets can be donated to the military by sending them to the Athletics Department by October 15. Tickets may also be purchased and donated. Hall of Fame Weekend - A halftime ceremony will honor six former student-athletes and one former coach on their induction into the Georgia Southern University Athletic Hall of Fame: Tara Chaisson (women's soccer), Pat Douglas (football), Greg Hill (football), Paul Johnson (football coach), Stacey Scheible (women's swimming), Jeff Shireman (baseball) and Britta Wilms (tennis).
Nov. 6 - Appalachian State, 2 p.m.
Senior Day - The 2010 football seniors will be honored prior to the game.
Homecoming - The 2010 Homecoming court will be recognized at halftime with the king and queen being announced and crowned during the ceremony.
BLUE OUT - The more blue packed into Paulson, the better. Fans are encouraged to wear as much blue as possible for the annual BLUE OUT game. The 2010 edition of the BLUE OUT T-shirt can be purchased from the University Store for $10 beginning October 9th.
1990 and 2000 National Championship Reunion - The 1990 football team will celebrate its 20-year anniversary of winning the Division I-AA National Championship and the 2000 national champions will have their 10-year celebration. Members of the 1990 and 2000 teams will be introduced and honored during the game.
