Student-Athletes Excel in Classroom

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Athletic Department today (June 3) announced the academic success of its student-athletes following the completion of the Spring 2010 semester. For their efforts in the classroom, 156 student-athletes posted grade point averages of 3.0 or better. Eagle student-athletes must be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours during the course of a semester as a requirement of their athletics participation.

Members of all 15 sports teams were represented on the list of student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or better and all 15 also had members of their teams on the Dean's List for GPAs of 3.5 to 3.99. Members of 10 teams were named to the President's List.

A total of 26 student-athletes achieved perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the Spring 2010 semester with the women's basketball, swimming and diving team, and women's tennis team each producing four members of the President's list. With grade point averages of 3.5 or above for last semester, 44 student-athletes earned the distinction of being on the Dean's List.

For the 2009-2010 academic year, Georgia Southern student-athletes posted a combined grade point average of 2.84.
