Ten Practices Down, Five to Go

STATESBORO, Ga. - As Eagle Coach Jeff Monken relayed to the members of his Georgia Southern football team at the end of practice, today is now history and they can't ever get the day back. Practice number 10 went into the books with the players continuing to work on fundamentals through position drills and periods of team contact. The Eagles had two sessions of team contact, rotating three designated groups through series of offense versus defense.
"This is mentally challenging for our defense as well as for our offense to learn our new schemes and a new system," said Eagles first-year Coach Jeff Monken. "Everybody is learning and we have thrown a lot of stuff at them. We really tried to back off today and tried to concentrate on our base plays and the fundamentals."
Yesterday, Monken emphasized the need to put two practices together, as today was the final day of back-to-back practice sessions for the spring. The Eagles have four practices remaining before the final scrimmage at Paulson Stadium at 1 p.m. on April 17th, the Blue-White Spring Game, presented by Franklin Toyota.
