White Team Tops Blue 24-0

STATESBORO, Ga. - Bringing the option back to Paulson Stadium was a lot like a family reunion. Former players from all eras and more than 3,800 fans came to watch the return of Georgia Southern's offensive "identity" in the final practice session of spring. The White Team, led by junior quarterback Jawaun Luckey who scored two rushing touchdowns, held the Blue Team scoreless with a 24-0 win.
The Eagles, on both the Blue and White Teams, ran with it during the 2010 Blue-White Spring Game, presented by Franklin Toyota, with the White Team posting 109 yards on the ground to the Blue Team's 95 yards. Luckey's three-yard quarterback sneak at the 11:11 mark of the first quarter put the White Team on the board after it took the opening drive 70 yards in for the score.
The White Team took the ball back with 5:39 in the first quarter with freshman quarterback Brent Osborn (Valley, Ala.) under center. Osborn threw a 51-yard pass, the longest on the day, to Patrick Barker (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) to get to Blue nine-yard line. Osborn was sacked, then recovered his own fumble to set up Graden Bozeman (Statesboro, Ga.) for a 26-yard field goal to put the White Team up 10-0.
Featuring the first-team offense and second-team defense, the White Team added to its lead in the second quarter. Getting the ball on the Blue 24-yard line, Luckey called his own number on three of the four plays of the drive, scoring the 13-yard rushing touchdown at the 8:46 mark of the second period, White 17-0. After only three plays, a fumbled snap on the Blue Team, recovered by the White squad, put the first-team offense back on the field. Osborn hit Mitchell Williford (Duluth, Ga.) on the first play of the series for a 39-yard touchdown completion, 24-0 White.
President Brooks A. Keel was the honorary coach for the spring game, on the sidelines for the Blue Team in the first half and White Team for the second half. Former Eagle players Joey Cushing, Greg Hill and Fred Stokes served as captains for the White Team with Tim Durden, Mel McBride and Kiwaukee Thomas honorary captains for the Blue Team.
