Lindsey Vanderspiegel enters her third season in charge of the Georgia Southern women's soccer program after leading the Eagles to their first NCAA Tournament appearance and the program's first Southern Conference Tournament Championship in 2012. Georgia Southern posted a 10-8-5 record on the year, its first winning season and first double-digit win campaign since 2002.
The SoCon tourney title came on the heels of signature campaign in 2011 as the Eagles earned a SoCon Tournament berth for the first time since 2007 after finishing sixth in the final standings. GSU drew a first round trip to UNCG where the Eagles upset the No. 2 seeded Spartans with a 2-1 win on Sara Oland’s 85th minute goal. The win over UNCG snapped a drought of four years between SoCon Tournament victories.
Vanderspiegel joined the Eagles after four years at Hofstra, helping to lead the Pride to its most successful seasons in school history and two NCAA second-round championship appearances.
Vanderspiegel came to Hofstra in 2007 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator and helped guide the Pride to a 58-21-3 record over four years. Hofstra captured the Colonial Athletic Association tournament in 2007 and regular season championship in 2010, with victories in the NCAA postseason tournament both years. The Pride registered an 11-0 mark in league play in 2010, the first CAA team to post an unbeaten and untied record since 1998. Hofstra also earned its first national ranking in school history this past season with a ranking as high as 18th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
A 2004 William & Mary graduate, Vanderspiegel earned numerous accolades as a midfielder for the Tribe. A three-time selection to the NSCAA All-Region team and 2000 Freshman All-America team member, she was the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Year in 2002, 2001 CAA tournament MVP and 2000 CAA Rookie of the Year. Vanderspiegel was a first-team pick all four seasons and she owns championship rings as a member of three conference title teams during her career.
The CAA bestowed another honor upon Vanderspiegel in August 2009 when she was named to the league’s 25th Anniversary Women’s Soccer Team in conjunction with its Silver Anniversary celebration.
While at Hostra, Vanderspiegel coached the girls U-11 Long Island FC team and had previously coached the Beach FC Soccer Club, leading the U-14 team to a Hampton Roads Girls Soccer Association championship in 2005. Vanderspiegel has continued to play competitively after her collegiate career as a member of the New York Athletic Club, Long Island Rough Riders and Hampton Road Piranhas of the W-League.
Vanderspiegel holds an undergraduate degree in sociology and is pursuing a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies.
