STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Athletics has announced the cancellation of the September 17, 2011 North Dakota State football game originally scheduled to be played in Fargo, N.D. The contest was added to the Eagles' schedule to fill an opening created when East Tennessee State dropped its football program. Presbyterian College will replace North Dakota State in a game to be played at Paulson Stadium on October 22nd, giving the Eagles six home games for the 2011 campaign.
Georgia Southern and Presbyterian College have played two times previously, last in 1984 at Clinton, S.C. The Eagles have won both games against the Blue Hose.
The Eagles kick off the 2011 season with Southern Conference opponent Samford in Birmingham, Ala., on September 3rd and then will play host to Coastal Carolina. After an open date on September 17th, Georgia Southern welcomes league member Western Carolina on September 24th to complete the first month's slate.
Three home games in the month of October follow the Eagles' October 1st trip to Elon with SoCon contests at Paulson Stadium against Chattanooga October 8th and Furman October 15th. The Presbyterian College home game moves to what was previously scheduled as an open date October 22nd.
A trip to Boone, N.C., to play Appalachian State October 29th precedes Homecoming Weekend and The Citadel on November 5th. The regular season closes with two games on the road beginning with SoCon foe Wofford on November 12th and concluding at Alabama on November 19th.
Game times for the 2011 home games will be released at a later date.
