Inclement Weather Cancels Remainder of UNC Classic

Chapel Hill, N.C. - In an abbreviated schedule, the Georgia Southern track & field team participated in the 2010 Dick Taylor Carolina Classic indoor track meet scheduled for Friday-Saturday, January 29-30. Saturday's events have been cancelled due to the weather conditions in the area, but the Eagles participated in nine events on the first day.
Senior Laura Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) captured fifth place in the one-mile run with a time of 5:15.70 with freshman Sara Curry placing 12th overall in the event with a time of 5:28.68. In the 60 meter hurdles, Jasmine Billings (Lawrenceville, Ga.) ran an 8.97 for 10th place after posting a time of 8.86 in the preliminaries.
Three Eagles posted top-30 times in the 300 meter dash with Morgan Jefferson (Villa Rica, Ga.) placing 14th with a time of 42.80 and Joann Jaja-Benson (Savannah, Ga.) at 16th with a time of 43.07. Millicent Brooks-Millender (Douglasville, Ga.) completed the event with a time of 44.96 for 27th overall.
Georgia Southern also placed three women in the 500 meter run with Azura Robillard (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) in 17th at 1:22.95 and Mary O'Sullivan (1:24.13 - Greenville, S.C.) and Talisha Rice (1:26.10 - Stockbridge, Ga.) finishing 22nd and 25th, respectively.
Senior Shaunta Hamilton (11th place - Macon, Ga.) and Sharonica Henton (12th place - San Antonio, Texas/Statesboro, Ga.) both competed in the Indoor Pentathalon with Hamilton earning 3064 points and Henton 2824 total for the events. Hamilton scored 738 points with her top finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.63 meters. She tied for sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.50 meters. With a throw of 11.49 meters in the shot put, Henton added 627 points to her total score.
In the pentathlon running events, Hamilton posted a time of 9.85 in the 60 meter hurdles for 740 points and 11th place with Henton scoring 729 points with her 12th-place finish (9.91). Henton finished 12th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:47.82 for 486 points with Hamilton in 13th with 466 points (2:49.77).
