Valentine Named SoCon 'Freshman of the Week'

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern wide receiver Jamere Valentine (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) was named Southern Conference 'Freshman of the Week'. The league office announced the award on Monday (Sept. 7).
Valentine caught six passes for a game-high 79 yards and two second half touchdowns as the Eagles defeated Albany 29-26 in the season-opener for both teams.
The true-freshman receiver caught a screen pass, broke a couple of tackles and scored from 36 yards out. In the fourth quarter he made a one-handed catch in the endzone for a 26-yard TD reception.
The Eagles (1-0) travel to 21st-ranked South Dakota State this Saturday (Sept. 12) at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern and is the season-opener for the Jackrabbits.
