STATESBORO, Ga. ? Georgia Southern Football began the final week of spring drills, working out Tuesday morning (March 31). The Eagles will practice three times this week prior to the annual Blue-White game on Saturday, April 4th at 1 p.m.
The team and coaches were getting fired up when the offense and defense battled during 1-on-1 blocking drills. That enthusiasm carried throughout practice #12.
Head coach Chris Hatcher likes the progress his team has made during the last three weeks.
“I have high expectations. I want us to come out the first day ready to compete for a championship. I think we've gotten better in certain areas and then of course there are certain areas we need to improve on. We'll constantly harp on that into the course of next season,” said Hatcher. “Right now I feel good at where we are at. We have a good group of guys and the biggest thing is we're finding out who can help us come next fall. That's one very important aspect of spring practice, we want to come out of this knowing who will be able to help us when the time comes.”
With Saturday's Blue-White game just three more practices away, Hatcher noted that this year's game might be run a little different.
“We'll play four 10 minute quarters, and if we need to run the clock some at the end we will do that. We've got two groups and a spatter of other guys that can go in. Basically on our depth chart, the guys that have been working with the one's will go against the two's. I want to see how the guys in the second group who have looked really good against the two's everyday give them an opportunity to go out and see if there worthy to move up the depth chart by going against the best we've got,” said Hatcher.
LITTLE EAGLES SKILL CHALLENGE ON SATURDAY: Prior to the start of the Blue-White game, Georgia Southern Football will sponsor the Second Annual Little Eagles Skills Challenge. Sign-up will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Paulson Stadium, with the drills set for 11 a.m.-12 noon. Kids ages 4-12 can attend for free.
“We are hoping to have another great turnout, much like we did last year. This is a chance for the kids and their parents from around the area to test their athletic ability against the Georgia Southern Football team,” said director of Eagle Sports Marketing Brent Jones.
