Fuller Shines in Rain-Shortened GSU Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern track & field team was stellar in the the rain-shortened GSU Invitational Saturday
The Eagles won three events including the 1500 meter run, 100 meter dash and long jump.
Laura Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) narrowly missed tying the school record in the 1500 meter run. Fuller brought home the Eagles' first event win in the race with a time of 4:45.90. Fuller finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.56.
Demetrise Anthony (Manchester, Ga.) gave the Eagles their second event win of the day in the 100 meter dash. She finished with a time of 11.81. Anthony came in fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.42 meters.
Kassi Lee (Elberton, Ga.) got the Eagles off on the right foot with a third place finish in the steeplechase. Lee was in second most of the race and finished with a time of 12:41.47.
Amanda Spivy (Pembroke, Ga.) picked up a point for Georgia Southern with a ninth place finish in the hammer throw. Spivy completed the event with a mark of 30.86 meters.
Georgia Southern earned another top-three finish with a third place finish in the 4x100 meter relay. The Eagles finished third with a time of 48.27.
Ashley Bush-Hardy (Fayetteville, Ga.) earned Georgia Southern's fourth medal with a third place finish in the 400 meter dash. Bush-Hardy finished with a time of 57.53.
Melanie Trumbo (Lilburn, Ga.) finished second in the javelin throw with a time mark of 32.47 meters.
Lynndsey Hyter (Dallas, Texas) and Kristin Olson (Senoia, Ga.) finished back-to-back in the 100 meter hurdles. Hyter finished fifth with a time of 14.86. Olson finished sixth with a time of 14.94. Hyter also won the long jump with a mark of 5.65 meters.
Shaunta Hamilton (Macon, Ga.) finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.45 meters.
Morgan Jefferson (Villa Rica, Ga.) led Georgia Southern in the 800 meter run and finished second with a time of 2:20.93.
Shauntel Jennings (Stone Mountain, Ga.) finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.00.
Courtney Ware (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.23.
Michelle Uzoh (San Antonio, Texas) finished second in the shot put with a mark of 10.44 meters.
The GSU Invitational was halted during the second heat of the shot put due to rain.
Track & field returns to action Thursday at the Florida Relays.
