Track & Field Completes Day One of Shamrock Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. - The Georgia Southern track & field team finished the first full day of competition at the Shamrock Invitational on a strong note Friday.
Demetrise Anthony (Manchester, Ga.) got the Eagles started off on the right foot with a first place finish in the long jump. Anthony pulled away from the competition with a mark of 5.88 meters. The junior also qualified for the 100 meter dash finals with a time of 12.16 in the preliminaries.
Kassi Lee (Elberton, Ga.) gave Georgia Southern another top-10 finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Lee finished with a time of 12:45.36 in the event.
Alexandria Cassagnol (Augusta, Ga.) finished seventh in the high jump with a jump of 1.55 meters.
Brittani Martin (Alpharetta, Ga.) completed the 5000 meter run in just over 20 minutes. The freshman runner came in 20th with a time of 20:35.58.
Tiara Bivins (Court Bonaire, Ga.) narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 100 meter hurdles finals. Bivins finished 27th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.32.
Track & field will continue the Shamrock Invitational tomorrow morning on the campus of Coastal Carolina.
