Fans Vote for Your Eagle Athlete of the Week

The Georgia Southern Athletics Department has released the new nominees for the Eagle Athlete of the Week fan poll for Tuesday, February 25. The poll will open every Tuesday for fan voting and close the following Monday of each week. The Athletic Media Relations Department will nominate the student athletes every week based on the previous week's athletic events. All statistics of the nominees are from those events only, not overall season statistics. Fans vote online at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com and check back on Monday to see your winner. The poll is located on the lower left side of the homepage.
This week's nominees are:
Ben Drayton, Fr, St. Mary's, Ga. - Men's Basketball
Ben Drayton averaged 16.5 points per game last week against The College of Charleston and the win over Jacksonville State. The freshman guard scored in double-figures for the seventh straight game playing nearly all 40 minutes against Charleston. He finished with 16 points and blocked a shot during that game. Drayton contributed 17 points and five rebounds against Jacksonville State towards the win on Saturday.
Ashley Rivens, Sr, Charlotte, N.C. ? Women's Basketball
Senior Ashley Rivens played in her final home game of her career on Saturday against Davidson scoring in double figures. Rivens shot .500 percent from the free throw line while committing no turnovers in 33 minutes of action. She scored 10 points off three rebounds and one steal. Against Wofford, the senior guard helped lead Georgia Southern to a 62-61 victory. Rivens scored a team-high 19 points off a game-high 3 steals. With both games combined, Rivens hit 60 percent of her free throws and averaged 14.5 ppg.
Jayraj Jadeja, Jr, Hayes, England ? Men's Tennis
Jayraj Jadeja helped lead Georgia Southern to a 5-2 victory over Jacksonville University Sunday. Jadeja clinched the match for the Eagles at the three seed with a decisive 7-5, 6-3 victory over Jaime Esteban. The Eagle clinched the doubles point for Georgia Southern at Jacksonville competing at the two seed for only the second time this season.
Melanie Rolle, So, Gainesville, Fla. ? Women's Tennis
The sophomore starter from Gainesville, Fla. has gone unbeaten from the number four position for the Eagles thus far in the season, posting a 4-0 record. Opening conference play this weekend, Rolle went undefeated going 2-0 in singles action at the four seed. She crushed Melissa Wolf of Elon in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 and upended UNCG's Britney Cloer 6-3, 7-5. Rolle's overall singles record improved to 10-4 with the two wins and she boasts a 6-2 dual match record and 2-0 conference mark.
Chris Mederos, Jr, Valdosta, Ga. ? Baseball
This past week Mederos scored one run and struck out eight in 5.2 innings. The junior right-hander, making his Georgia Southern debut, helped the Eagles defeat Presbyterian 7-1 in the season-opener for both teams Friday night (Feb. 20) at J.I. Clements Stadium. The Eagles won their season-opener for the second time in three years, thanks in large part to Mederos.
Robyne Siliga, Sr, Oceanside, Calif. - Softball
Robyne Siliga batted .533 with two home runs and seven RBIs last week. She lifted the Eagles over Charleston Southern with a seventh inning game-winning home run. The Oceanside, Calif. Native walked 10 times and has a .731 on-base percentage over the span of seven games.
Joe Monte, So, Chantilly, Va. ? Golf
Sophomore Eagle Joe Monte had an incredible three rounds at the John Hayt Invitational, shooting a season-low 2-under par 70 his third round. A combined three-day total 219 (+3) allowed him to jump from a tie for ninth place starting the third round to finish in sole possession of sixth. The Eagle carded a 76-73-70 three rounds, respectively. Monte led the Eagles to a third place finish in the 15-team event. In the opening spring tournament for Georgia Southern, Monte carded a 218 (+8) tournament total, tying him for 50th.
