STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern University's Adrian Mora (Dalton/Dalton) was named Southern Conference 'Special Teams Player of the Week'. The league office announced the weekly winners Monday (Oct. 5).
It's the first career weekly award for Mora, a preseason First Team All-SoCon and preseason All-America selection heading into the 2009 campaign.
Mora kicked the two longest field goals of his career and converted both extra point attempts in the Eagles' 26-21 win at Wofford. Mora kicked a 48-yard field goal in the second quarter then hit from 50 yards in the third quarter. It was just the 21st field goal of 50-plus yards in Georgia Southern history.
Entering this week Mora leads the Eagles scoring 34 points (8-of-10 field goals and 10-of-10 extra points). The sophomore kicker leads the SoCon and is tied for 10th nationally averaging 1.6 field goals per game. He also leads the league in field goal percentage and PAT kicking percentage. Mora's 6.8 point-per-game average stands seventh in the league and tied for 52nd nationally.
The Eagles (3-2 overall) step out of conference play this Saturday (Oct. 10), traveling to North Carolina. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN360.
