Fans Vote for Your Eagle Athlete of the Week

The Georgia Southern Athletics Department has released the new nominees for the Eagle Athlete of the Week fan poll for Tuesday, January 27. The poll will open every Tuesday for fan voting and close the following Monday of each week. The Athletic Media Relations Department will nominate the student athletes every week based on the previous week's athletic events. All statistics of the nominees are from those events only, not overall season statistics. Fans vote online at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com and check back on Monday to see your winner. The poll is located on the lower left side of the homepage.
This week's nominees are:
Julian Allen, Sr, Waterbury, Conn. - Men's Basketball
Allen recorded his fifth career double-double scoring 14 points and having 10 rebounds in the win over Wofford last week. He also scored in double-figures against Furman, extending his streak to having four straight games scoring in double figures.
Ashley Melson, Sr, Newnan, Ga. ? Women's Basketball
Senior Ashley Melson made Georgia Southern women's basketball history when she scored her 1,000th career point against Elon. She scored 13 points to hit the milestone Monday night. Melson is only the 18th Lady Eagle to join the 1,000 career point club.
Katie Creighton, Sr, Snellville, Ga. - Swimming and Diving
Katie Creighton continued her fine diving in the loss to North Florida. She finished first in the 1-meter dive with a mark of 230.47. Creighton's score was a season high mark for her.
