Track & Field Started its 2009 Season with a Strong Performance in the UNC Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Georgia Southern track & field team kicked off its 2009 indoor season with a strong performance in the UNC Classic on Saturday. The Lady Eagles had three top-5 finishes on the day.
The Lady Eagles finished fifth in the distance medley event with a time of 13:43.76.
Jasmine Lightning (Dacula, Ga.) gave Georgia Southern its second top-5 finish of the day. She placed fourth in the high jump.
Demetrise Anthony (Manchester, Ga.) helped the Lady Eagles continue their fine day with a fourth place finish in the Long Jump.
For the Lady Eagles, Courtney Ware (Indianapolis, Ind.) made the first finals' appearance of the day and finished 35th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.01.
Ashley Bush-Hardy (Fayetteville, Ga.) gave Georgia Southern its first top-20 finish. She ran the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:00.32.
Shauntel Jennings (Stone Mountain, Ga.) followed Bush-Hardy's performance with a 15th place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.23.
Georgia Southern's 4x400 relay team finished sixth in the event with a time of 4:01.66.
Sarah Herndon (Statesboro, Ga.) got her career off to a good start with a seventh place finish in the weight throw.
Kassi Lee (Elberton, Ga.) finished 26th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:40.17.
Leah Bradley (McDonough, Ga.) ran the 1 mile in a time of 6:09.91 which was good enough for 42nd place.
The Lady Eagles return to action Friday at the Niswonger Classic in Johnson City, Tenn.
