Michelle Carlson joined the softball staff as a volunteer assistant in August, 2008.
She will work primarily with the outfielders and catchers and assist in the day-to-day operations of the program.
Carlson comes to Statesboro after serving a season as student assistant with current GSU head coach Maggie Johnson at Radford University. With the Highlanders, Carlson worked with the hitters and outfielders and catchers.
The 2008 season was a successful one for Radford, setting school records for wins (46) and win percentage (.754), home runs (57), batting average (.307), and slugging percentage (.486). The team put together a 16 game winning streak, and had eight All-Big South honorees, including seven on the first team.
As a player, Carlson was a two-time Big South All-Academic team member and NFCA Scholar-Athlete. In 2007, she was tabbed to the Big South All-Tournament team. She spent her freshman season at the University of Toledo.
The native of Norfolk, Va. graduated from Radford in 2008 with a B.S. degree in exercise, sport and health education.
