SoCon Academic Honor Roll Includes 141 of Georgia Southern Student-Athletes

This years' honor roll saw four of the conference's 11 member institutions set new school records.
The Baseball and Football teams tied for the most student-athletes on the honor roll with 23 each. The track and field and softball teams tied for third place with 12 student-athletes apiece.
To be included on the Southern Conference's Academic Honor Roll Georgia Southern's student-athletes have to first participate in varsity level sports and then earn a 3.0 or higher grade point average, while passing a minimum of 24 hours worth of classes for the year.
The Academic Honor Roll was established by the Southern Conference's athletic directors for the 1988 athletic year as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. While only 364 student athletes where placed on the honor roll the first year, the honor roll has increased in 13 of the 17 subsequent years. This year saw more than 1,600 student-athletes make the list, setting a new high for the conference. The average GPA of the Southern Conferences Academic Honor Roll student athletes was a 3.44.
