SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Georgia Southern's Demetrise Anthony was named Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week by the Southern Conference for her performance this past weekend at the Irwin Belk Invitational in Davidson, N.C.
The Manchester, Ga. native was a double event winner last Saturday. She won the 100m dash with a time of 12.02 and was a member of the 4x100m relay team, which set the meet record with a time of 46.35. She also had a second and a third place finish in the long and triple jump events. Her distances of 19'06.00” and 39'08.00” both edged out previous meet records.
The Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honor is the first in Anthony's career. She becomes the second Eagle jumper to earn the award this season. Teammate Lynndsey Hyter (Dallas, Texas) picked up the honor for her performance at the Shamrock Invitational.
Anthony and the rest of the Eagles return to action this weekend as they travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to defend their crown at the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships.
