Eagles Soar For a Cure, Athletics Participates in Relay For Life

STATESBORO, Ga. ? Participating for a great cause, the Georgia Southern University Athletics Department saw a tremendous turnout on Friday evening, for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event, held at the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fairgrounds in Statesboro.
This year's team was headed by GSU senior swimmer Kimberly Morris (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and the team name was “Eagles Soar For a Cure (GSU Athletics).”
Relay For Life offers everyone within a community the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams take turns walking or running around the fairgrounds. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.
There were 92 total teams signed up for this year's event and donations have totaled $177,031 thus far. This year's goal is set at $298,000. Georgia Southern University was one of the top organizations with 25 teams registered to participate.
“We've done this for a number of years now,” said GSU swimming & diving coach Nathan Kellogg. “Everyone knows someone that has been affected by Cancer. It's great to see not only Georgia Southern, but the entire Bulloch community stand together supporting such a great cause.”
