Track & Field in Second after Day One at the SoCon Indoor Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. ? Day one of the Southern Conference Indoor Championships is complete with the Georgia Southern track & field team currently in second place.
The Eagles have compiled 52 points and trail Appalachian State by just four heading into the final day of competition. Western Carolina is in third with 37 points and Chattanooga is in fourth with 36 points. The Citadel, Elon, College of Charleston and Davidson round out the rest of the women's field.
Sophomore Melanie Trumbo (Lilburn, Ga.) earned the SoCon title in the Pentathlon with a score of 3,248 points. Trumbo's mark moves her into second place in the Georgia Southern indoor record books. Trumbo also recorded a second place finish in the high jump with a jump of 5'04.25”.
GSU senior thrower Jennifer Charles (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) finished second in the shot put with a distance of 43'05.25”. Sophomore Shaunta Hamilton (Macon, Ga.) leaped a distance of 18'09.00” in the long jump earning a second place finish.
The Eagles conclude the SoCon Championships on Saturday in Clemson, S.C. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
