Yoshiaki "Yoshi" Takei Bio

Three-time National Amateur Athletic Union All-Around Gymnastics Champion (1970, 1971, 1973) and two-time senior elite U.S. Gymnastics All-Around Champion (1971 and 1972). Was Gymnast, assistant gymnastics coach and graduate teaching assistant at Georgia Southern from 1970-73. Represented Japan at 1971 World Cup International Gymnastics Championships capturing first place in the parallel bars where he performed original movement (glide-kip, back-straddle, cut-catch-to-support) later named "Takei" by the Federation of International Gymnastics. Born October 9, 1945 in Manchuria . Earned Maters degree from Georgia Southern in 1972. Coached at California State University Long Beach from 1973 to 1985. Had individuals qualify for NCAA Division I Championships in nine of his 12 years. Led team to top three finish every season in the Pacific Coast Athletic Association.
