JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. ? Day one is complete at the 30th annual Niswonger Invitational as the Georgia Southern track & field team got back on the track for just the second time this indoor season.
GSU sophomore Demetrise Anthony competed very well on the first day of competition. The Manchester, Ga. native garnered a first-place finish in (Heat 4) of the 60m prelims guaranteeing her a spot in tomorrow's finals. She also earned a spot in the finals of the triple jump with a preliminary jump of 40'.
The Eagles were very successful in the 4x400m relay. GSU had the seventh and twelfth fastest times of the morning with both the “A” and “B” relay teams running in (Heat 2). The “A” unit finished in first-place with a time of 3:55.05, while the “B” relay team ran to a time of 4:09.87.
Senior Carla Ballard (Morrow, Ga.) finished third in (Heat 3) of the 400m dash racing to a time of 58.37.
Georgia Southern concludes the Niswonger Invitational tomorrow morning. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
