Dr. Munkasy was born in New Iberia, LA and was raised in Miami, FL. He teaches at Georgia Southern University in the Department of Health and Kinesiology as an Assistant Professor specializing in Biomechanics and serves as Director of the Biomechanics Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. in exercise science, specializing in biomechanics from the University of Southern California, Masters degree in exercise science specializing in biomechanics from Arizona State University, and a B.S.E. from Tulane University in biomedical engineering. His current research focuses on biomechanical changes that occur during rehabilitation and performance optimization. In the future he wishes to examine the value of biomechanical feedback in facilitating motor learning. In addition to his academic duties, Dr. Munkasy has, for the last eight years, served as Head Cheerleading Coach at Georgia Southern University. He has more than 25 years experience in cheerleading as a high school cheerleader in Miami, FL, collegiate cheerleader at Tulane University, camp director for the National Cheerleaders Association, high school assistant coach, head coach at the University of Miami, presenter at coaches' conferences, volunteer assistant at Arizona State University, and as first a volunteer assistant and then as head coach at Georgia Southern. For the last four years he has served as tumbling coach for the Cheer South All-Stars.
Other personal interests include cooking, gardening, and studying technology.
