After a successful four-year playing career with the Eagles and a coaching stint at Effingham County High School, Brad Mitchum begins his first season on the Georgia Southern coaching staff.
Mitchum was a four-year letterwinner for the Eagles from 2003-06. The backbone of the Eagle defense throughout his career, he played in a total 68 matches, earning the starting position in all but three. His leadership in the back helped Georgia Southern to a total 20 shutouts that included 18 victories and two ties.
Named to the All-Southern Conference and All-Tournament teams as a senior in 2006, Mitchum helped the Eagles to a 10-6-3 record, their best season since 1997 when GSU finished with a 14-4-2 mark. Georgia Southern's appearance in the SoCon championship match was an accomplishment that hadn't occurred in a decade. Additionally, the Eagles blanked eight teams during the 2006 campaign, tying the record set back in 1990.
Mitchum's skills went beyond the defensive realm as he tallied 25 career points on six goals, including a pair of game-winners, and 13 assists.
Mitchum's high school days were spent at Shiloh High School where he was a four-year letterwinner and three-year captain. While there, he was named to All-Gwinnett County Team three times, tallying 28 goals and 37 assists.
Mitchum graduated from Georgia Southern in the spring of 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Logistics & Intermodal Transportation. He is currently working toward earning a Master of Kinesiology degree in Coaching from GSU. Mitchum owns a United States Soccer Federation ?D' license.
