Andy Lott is in his first season as assistant coach.
Lott joins the staff after seven seasons as an assistant at Liberty University. He replaces Beth Mullins who left in June to return to her alma mater, Alabama-Birmingham.
He will be responsible for recruiting, practice organization, and defensive and hitting development.
“I am real excited about hiring Andy as my assistant coach,” said Poole. “It is a great hire for the softball program. Andy brings seven years of Division I coaching experience from a competitive program. He has a lot of drive and passion and is committed to making this program better immediately. We are blessed to have him and are benefiting from having him here already.”
While at Liberty, Lott served as the top assistant coach and oversaw practice organization and aided the program's recruiting efforts.
During his stay in Lynchburg the Flames won the 2002 Big South Tournament title to qualify for the NCAA Tournament and tied the school record with 41 victories in 2006.
Last year's team claimed victories over three ranked opponents, including No. 6 Michigan and No. 10 Baylor. Liberty's 73 home runs were a new school record and 13th-best in the nation.
“I am thankful to be part of the Georgia Southern softball program,” said Lott. “I am looking forward to working with Natalie and (assistant coach) Sara (Mason) as we try to take this team to another level. The girls have been wonderful and I am excited about the potential of this team.”
Before joining the staff at Liberty, Lott was the head coach of the varsity softball program at Lynchburg Christian Academy in Lynchburg and guided the Bulldogs to a 17-5 record during the 1999-00 season. During the fall semester, he served as the head coach of the girls' junior varsity basketball team and helped Lynchburg Christian to a 23-4 record and a second-place finish in the Virginia Independent Conference.
He also served the Bulldogs' athletic department during his tenure in two other avenues, as he was the assistant coach of the varsity baseball team, which won the VIC title in 1998, as well as serving as an assistant coach of the boys' varsity basketball staff.
Lott is a 1995 graduate of Liberty with a bachelor's degree in sport management.
He is married to the former Julie McLane and has a daughter, Gracie.
