STATESBORO, Ga. ? The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association honored four members of the Georgia Southern Track & Field team after a standout performance at the 2007 NCAA East Regional competition (May 25-26) at Gainesville, Fla.
Earning All East Region Team honors was Rasheda Arnold (Fayetteville, Ga.), Demetrise Anthony (Manchester, Ga.), Shamyria Ortiz (Newnan, Ga.) and Nicole Brown (Lawrenceville, Ga.) of the 4x100m Relay team. The foursome set a GSU record clocking in at 45.05, which was the eighth-best time of the day.
Additionally, Brown was recognized by the USTFCCCA after winning the Triple Jump, setting a Georgia Southern record (43'6”), and qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., becoming the first female track & field athlete to represent GSU at Nationals.
“I'm extremely proud of these four individuals,” said head coach Natalie Smith. “This is not only great for them, but it's great for our program as well as the Southern Conference as a whole. I would consider the East Region one of the most prestigious regions in collegiate track & field, and this award speaks volumes about the outstanding performance of these ladies.”
