2013 Florida Relays

Georgia Southern 4X200m Relay Breaks Program Record at Florida Relays

GAINESVIILLE, Fla. – A Georgia Southern program record fell Saturday afternoon as the 4X200m Relay team of Jasmin Walker, Ebony Carter, Aarian Tipton and Alyssa Felton ran a 1:36.91 at the Pepsi Florida Relays. The Eagles competed in three relay events on the final day of collegiate competition at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium, with the 4X100m Relay team of Walker, Carter, Felton and Amber Vaughn posting Georgia Southern's best time since 2007, missing a spot in the all-time top three by only .14 seconds.

"The relays did really well – we had the right teams out there – but we didn't have a perfect race and I think we can run faster and that's what we are going to try and do," said Head Coach Marlo Mincey. "As we get ready for championships, we are going to be sharpening things up, making sure we are technically sound and mentally focused. This will be a moderate week for training and we'll be working on race rhythms and strategies."

In the final women's event of the 2013 Florida Relays, Georgia Southern's 4X400m Relay team posted a time just .08 seconds off its season best. Dana Edwards, Aliya Parker, Vaughn and Kimberly Thomas ran a 3:52.15. Carter, Felton, Vaughn and Walker each ran legs in two of the Eagles' three relays.

The Georgia Southern Track & Field team does not compete next weekend, but will continue to prepare for the Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held on campus April 20-21. Eleven women's teams and nine men's teams will arrive in Statesboro next week. The 2013 championships begins at 8 a.m. Saturday with 100m Dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump and 400m events for the men's Decathlon.
