Trojans Quick Goals Too Much For Eagles

Eagles late push not enough against Little Rock

STATESBORO, Ga. – On another chilly evening in Statesboro, Georgia, the Eagles faced off against Little Rock in a battle for conference points. The evening would begin with back and forth play until the Trojans finally broke through in the 34th minute.

Quin Wilkes kicked off the scoring when Jaclyn Purvine played a good ball into the box and Wilkes finished it into the back of the net. Lisa Ryan added to the Trojans lead in the 62nd minute. Ryan tried to cross the box into the box, but it ended up avoiding everyone and scored side netting to go up 2-0.

The Blue and White would pressure at the end of the first half and it continued into the second half, before they allowed the second goal of the evening. In the 76th minute Doro Greulich added to the scoring when she stole a pass and dribbled toward the net. Greulich dribbled into the box and chipped the keeper to make it 3-0.

The Eagles finally got one back late in the 83rd minute when the Eagles finished a great set piece. Aila Sendra crossed the ball into the box and Paige Hoover headed it into the back of the net to make the game 3-1. The Eagles continued to pressure the final 7 minutes of the game, but the Trojans shut down the late surge.

WHAT HEAD COACH BRIAN DUNLEAVY SAID
"We played great soccer tonight, attractive and enjoyable to watch. Our players battled, it just wasn't our night. Little Rock was effective, they played to their strengths well. They're big and physical, they were better in the defensive and attacking boxes than we were. This league is tough, any team can beat anyone. Playing good soccer doesn't mean anything, you've got to win ugly sometimes. In order to get points in these next two games, we've got to play ugly. Just kick the ball and run through it, everyone else is just lumping the ball forward then crashing into the box and getting results. We need to take some of that into our play as well. I'm proud of our players, best group we've had here and anyone who watches us play can never question our quality and team spirit. We move on to Sunday as a group and get after it again."
