STATESBORO, Ga.- Friday afternoon, the Georgia Southern's four-match winning streak was snapped by College of Charleston at the Wallis Tennis Complex. The Cougars had a fast start in singles, winning the first four to clinch the match and ultimately win 4-3.

However, one streak did remain alive this afternoon, as the Eagles picked up the doubles point for the fourth consecutive match.

"I think our doubles chemistry has improved a lot every match," junior Mariana Ranzahuer said. "It's good to know that we can count on getting the point for the team."

Ranzahuer and doubles partner Lindsay Truscott clinched the doubles point for the team at line one after the No.2 and 3 positions left it at 1-1. Emilia Bujan and Mary Phillips Smith was the other duo to assist in the point; they took down Sarah Jane Jones and Sarah Zschunke 6-4 after Giulia Riepe and Francisca Norregaard lost their match 6-2 at line two.

In singles, the Cougars took care of business early, winning on all the courts in straight sets except courts four and six. Emilia Bujan (No.4) won a tight first set 7-6 against Rachel McNeely, but McNeely brought it to the third set where Bujan took off, winning the tiebreaker 10-1.

The match ended with the battle between Mary Phillips Smith and Helena Nyikos at the No.6 position. Smith ultimately redeemed herself from the 1-6 loss in the first set to win the second and third 6-4, 7-5.

"As far as singles, we learned that we have to focus on the moment and keep the fire up at all times," Ranzahuer said.
