Women's Tennis extends winning streak to three matches
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Georgia Southern women's tennis team swept Jacksonville State on Saturday 7-0 and advanced their spring record to 4-1.
The Eagles, who are on a three-match winning streak, dominated the Gamecocks in singles and lost just one match in doubles. The No.1 pair, Mariana Ranzahuer and Lindsay Truscott, beat Olivia Nguyen and Genevie Ulanday 6-4. Giulia Riepe and Paige Christian had similar luck at line three, chalking up a 6-2 win.
"I'm very happy with how everyone came into the match believing in each other especially in doubles and showing off the hard work we've been doing these past weeks," line two junior Mariana Ranzahuer said. "I think we really deserved this win and it's very exciting to go into our last match of the weekend with two wins in our pocket."
In singles, Riepe nearly swept the No.1 spot, tallying a 6-0, 6-2 final score, while senior Mary Phillips Smith didn't let Isabella Calves get on the board, posting a 6-0, 6-0 score at the No.6 position.
The rest of the team won with ease, except freshman Emilia Bujan who fought back to win it all after losing the first set to Sadey St. Amant.
